Your child will take quizzes and tests throughout the school year to assess his or her ability and learning progress. Although some students dread test taking, with preparation, the experience can be positive and rewarding. Try the tips below to help your child prepare for tests.
TEST REMINDER: To avoid any unpleasant surprises, encourage your child to keep track of the testing schedule using their planner. Have him or her keep a separate wall calendar or on a mobile device on which to note the dates - with subject matter - of all tests and quizzes.
STUDY PLAN: Help your sixth-grader develop a study plan for each scheduled test. He or she can create a checklist of what will be on the test to get organized. Encourage your child to use the time before the test wisely. Also, make sure your child begins studying early. the night before a test is not the time to BEGIN test preparation.
REVIEW: As a final step in test preparation, help your child complete a review of the test subject matter. The final review, however, shouldn't be the only step in his or her test preparation. REMEMBER to familiarize yourself with different test formats (true/false, multiple choice, essay, fill in the blank, etc.), get a good night's sleep the night before a test, and eat a good breakfast or lunch before the test.
In science, the students will receive a study guide in preparation of what they will be tested on. Also, Boom Cards and Quizlet will have review material to help students prepare.
